Happy Fundoshi Day!

February 14 isn’t just Valentine's Day, it’s also Fundoshi Day! Mostly observed in Japan, Fundoshi Day celebrates the traditional loincloth of Japan, the fundoshi. A fundoshi is a long strip of cloth wrapped around the waist and between the legs to create a snug, form-fitting pouch in front and a thong-like, twisted appearance in back. Although it looks complex, a fundoshi is no more difficult to tie than a necktie. It’s sexy, supportive, and functional. There are many reasons to celebrate the fundoshi!

Fundoshi Fetish

Fundoshi is a Japanese loincloth-style garment made of one long strip of lightweight cloth, around 3 meters long and 25 cm wide.

You can purchase fundoshi, or make your own. My first fundoshi was torn from an old soft cotton bed sheet, but now I make fundoshi out of all kinds of fun patterns and colors.

The fabric is wound around the waist and between the legs to form a secure, supportive pouch and a twisted thong back.

There are a few other styles of fundoshi, but the diagram below will help you learn to tie the basic rokushaku (“six foot”) style of fundoshi. This style has been worn in Japan for at least 1,200 years.

I hope you enjoy trying it out!
